Little Torrington Summer Fete a Great Success!
Our sincere thanks to everyone who helped and supported our village fete this year, especially our sponsors Torbridge Vets and Trophy Foods. We had a wonderful day; the sun shone and there were many varied stalls, the famous BBQ and local beer (which sold out), the first ever north Devon ‘Doggylympics’ (thank you Sue Hamer-Moss for making this possible), croquet, wellie-throwing, face-painting etc.
We raised over £1000 for the church restoration project, and Rotary raised over £300 for Children’s Hospice South West.
News on St. Giles Restoration Project
Have you seen our new guttering and downpipes and hoppers? No more leaks! Our sincere thanks to Devon Historic Churches and National Churches Trust for their grants totalling £5,500 which helped so much to make this a reality.
Renewing the central lead valley gutter on the roof should have started by the time you read this – it will take about 6 weeks. Our thanks to Cooper Legacy and All Churches Trust, who have granted us £5,000 to help with this, which will cost almost £20,000.
Whilst this work is underway, our architect Simon Cartlidge is working on plans to make the temporary under-pew heating permanent, and to extend it to a further 10 pews plus installing storage heaters which will provide background heating vital to preserving the interior. We hope to have the Diocese permission to do this work early in 2018.
If you have any queries or suggestions about further improvements, please do contact the churchwardens, Robert Dean 01805 635434 and Martin McVinnie 01805 601900.
Thank you all for your support,
Pat Grimwood-Taylor, PCC Secretary.
