Great Torrington Church Tower and Spire Restoration Project
Over the last few years we have been working hard to put together a scheme of restoration of our famous parish Church here in Great Torrington. About every 150 years, old historic Churches need a complete restoration programme and ours is no different. As most of the inhabitants of Great Torrington will know St. Michael’s is a Grade II* medieval building, partly rebuilt after the explosion that took place during the civil war.
Our hope is to transform this fine but faded building. Already we have replaced the inadequate guttering and downpipes, made repairs to the roofs and improved the soakaways around the Church. At the same the beautiful rain hoppers to the West End have been completely refurbished and refitted. Photos The next phase is to repair the Tower and Spire. |
